Description
APC SRT96BP Dubai External Battery Pack for Smart-UPS SRT 2200VA 3000VA
Your UPS runtime is 5 minutes. Your requirement is 30 minutes.
That gap usually appears after the UPS is already installed. The server room is protected. The APC Smart-UPS SRT is doing its job. Then somebody checks the load, checks the estimated runtime, and realises the battery window is too short for the way the business actually works.
Five minutes may be enough for an automatic shutdown. It is not enough when the server needs to stay online while Etisalat or du links recover, when a storage array needs time to write safely, or when the IT admin has to connect remotely at 2AM and decide whether to shut down or wait. In Dubai offices, free zones, clinics, trading floors, and hotel back offices, that extra runtime is often the difference between a controlled event and a messy restart the next morning.
The APC SRT96BP is built for that exact problem. It is an external battery pack for compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT 2200VA and 3000VA tower UPS systems. It does not replace the UPS. It extends the battery reserve behind it.
What the APC SRT96BP is
The SRT96BP is an external battery pack used with selected APC Smart-UPS SRT tower models. It connects to the UPS through the external battery connector and adds extra battery capacity. The UPS remains the brain of the system. The battery pack is the extra fuel tank.
This matters because APC SRT UPS systems are online double conversion units. Incoming AC power is converted to DC and then regenerated back to clean AC output. There is no transfer delay during a power failure. The connected servers, switches, storage, CCTV NVRs, PABX systems, and security controllers receive stable output whether DEWA supply is normal, dipping, spiking, or fully off.
Online double conversion is the right UPS topology for sensitive loads. It is used where a small interruption is not acceptable: server rooms, data closets, medical equipment rooms, payment systems, and business-critical network racks. The trade-off is battery runtime. At higher loads, internal UPS batteries give minutes, not hours. The SRT96BP extends that window without changing the UPS.
Battery pack, not standalone UPS
The SRT96BP does not have outlets and does not power equipment by itself. It must be connected to a compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT unit. The UPS provides online double conversion output, monitoring, alarms, shutdown signalling, and load protection. The SRT96BP adds extra stored energy for longer runtime.
Which UPS models does SRT96BP fit?
The main buying question is simple: will this battery pack fit my UPS?
The SRT96BP is for compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT 2200VA and 3000VA tower models. For VDS customers in Dubai, the common matching UPS models are the APC SRT2200XLI and APC SRT3000XLI tower units. These are online double conversion UPS systems used for servers, network racks, storage devices, firewalls, access control servers, and small server rooms.

There is one important detail for buyers: SRT96BP and SRT96RMBP are not the same product. The SRT96BP is the tower external battery pack. The SRT96RMBP is the rack-mount battery pack. Many listings blur this difference. That causes wrong orders, especially when procurement searches only by “96BP” and assumes every result fits every SRT UPS.
Check tower vs rack before ordering
SRT96BP is normally selected for SRT tower UPS models. Rack installations usually use SRT96RMBP. Send a photo of your UPS rear label or the exact UPS model number before purchase. Vector Dubai checks compatibility before quoting so the battery pack, cable, and installation match the site.
Why add an external battery pack?
A UPS is often bought for protection. A battery pack is bought for time.
The internal batteries in a 2200VA or 3000VA online UPS may give only a short window at high load. That is normal. A 3000VA UPS protecting two servers, one NAS, a firewall, a core switch, and a small CCTV recorder can sit at a real working load of 900W to 1600W. At that load, the UPS is not meant to keep everything running for an hour on internal batteries. It is meant to bridge short interruptions and allow clean shutdown.
The SRT96BP changes the shutdown window. It gives the IT team more decision time. It helps during voltage events in older commercial buildings, short power loss during maintenance, breaker trips, generator transfer delays, and night-time events when nobody is next to the rack.
In a Dubai office tower, a five-minute runtime can disappear quickly. The UPS beeps. The server is still online. The internet router is still online. But by the time the admin receives the alert, connects remotely, confirms which services are running, and starts shutdown, the battery may already be low. With an external battery pack, that pressure drops. The UPS has more stored energy. The shutdown can be planned instead of rushed.
Runtime rule for Dubai server rooms
Do not size an external battery pack from catalogue runtime alone. Use the real connected load in watts, the age of the battery, and the room temperature. A cooled server room gives better battery behaviour than a storage room at 35°C. In Dubai, heat changes the result.
VA and watts still matter, even for a battery pack
The SRT96BP does not have a VA rating like a UPS. It does not deliver power directly to your equipment. But the UPS it connects to does have VA and watts, and those numbers decide how useful the battery pack will be.
A 2200VA UPS is not automatically right for every 2200VA-looking load. A 3000VA UPS does not mean you should run it at the edge all day. The useful number is watts. Servers, switches, NAS units, firewalls, routers, PABX systems, and NVRs consume real watts. The higher the watts, the shorter the runtime from the same battery pack.
Use the 70% rule. Keep the connected load under about 70% of the UPS watt capacity when practical. This gives the UPS breathing room, reduces heat, improves runtime, and avoids nuisance overload during startup or load changes. On an online UPS, that headroom also helps with battery discharge behaviour under stress.
For example, a rack with 500W of actual IT load will get far more runtime from an SRT96BP than a rack drawing 1400W. Same battery pack. Very different result. That is why Vector Dubai asks for connected equipment before quoting runtime. A model number alone is not enough.
Typical equipment protected with SRT96BP-backed systems
The SRT96BP is normally used where the load is too important for a short battery window. Common Dubai setups include a tower server running accounting or ERP, a NAS or small SAN, a firewall, an Etisalat or du router, a 24-port or 48-port switch, a PABX or VoIP gateway, and a CCTV NVR. Some sites also protect access control servers, time attendance systems, biometric controllers, and Wi-Fi controllers from the same UPS.
This is especially common in DMCC offices, DIFC offices, clinics, warehouses in Jebel Ali Free Zone, hospitality back offices, and older buildings where voltage dips can happen during lift motor starts, AC compressor cycling, or electrical maintenance in the tower. DEWA supply is generally stable. Still, the equipment inside the office only sees what reaches the socket. A good online UPS plus external battery reserve gives the business more control.
Online double conversion and longer runtime
The connected SRT UPS regenerates clean AC output at all times. The SRT96BP adds battery capacity behind that system. Together, they protect against full outages, short interruptions, voltage dips, generator transfer delays, and unstable input power while giving the IT team a longer window to act.
SmartConnect, SmartSlot, and monitoring
The SRT96BP itself does not have SmartConnect. It is not an ethernet device. It does not send cloud alerts by itself. Monitoring comes from the connected APC SRT UPS and its management options.
Many APC SRT systems support SmartSlot network management cards such as the APC AP9640. With an NMC fitted, the UPS can report battery status, load, input voltage, remaining runtime, alarm history, and shutdown events across the network. This is useful for IT admins who use SNMP monitoring, PRTG, Nagios, email alerts, or remote shutdown policies.
That 2AM alert matters. A power event starts after office hours. The UPS transfers to battery. The connected SRT system calculates runtime including the external pack. The network card sends an alert before the battery window is gone. The admin has time to decide: keep running, shut down non-critical systems, or trigger an orderly shutdown.
Without monitoring, the battery pack still works. But nobody knows the event is happening unless they are on site. For server rooms, branch offices, and locked IT closets, Vector Dubai normally recommends network monitoring on SRT installations, especially when external battery packs are added.

How Vector Dubai installs the SRT96BP
Installation is not just placing the battery beside the UPS. The pack has to be connected correctly, detected by the UPS, checked for alarms, and tested under the actual load. Runtime estimates should be checked after connection because the UPS needs to recognise the extra battery capacity.
Vector Dubai installs the SRT96BP with compatibility check, physical placement, battery cable connection, UPS detection check, alarm check, load verification, and runtime review. Where network management is installed, we also check that the UPS monitoring screen reports the external battery pack correctly. For servers, we review shutdown behaviour so PowerChute or network-based shutdown does not trigger too early or too late.
For existing SRT2200XLI and SRT3000XLI customers, we can add the external battery pack to an existing UPS installation. For new UPS purchases, we can supply the UPS and battery pack together, install both, and test the full runtime setup under the site’s connected load.
Vector Dubai has supplied and installed APC UPS systems in the UAE since 2010. For SRT96BP orders, we check the UPS model before quoting so the buyer does not end up with the wrong tower or rack battery pack. Send the UPS model number, site location, and approximate connected equipment. We will match the battery pack properly.
Runtime in Dubai: what changes when you add SRT96BP?
Runtime depends on one thing more than anything else: the connected load in watts.
A light 400W server rack will run far longer than a 1400W rack, even if both are connected to the same UPS and the same SRT96BP battery pack. That is why generic runtime claims are risky. They look neat on a datasheet, but real Dubai sites are not neat. One server room is cooled to 22°C. Another is a back office cabinet near a glass wall. One UPS protects only servers and switches. Another has a CCTV NVR, PoE load, router, firewall, NAS, and PABX added later by different vendors.
The SRT96BP is normally selected when the internal battery runtime of an SRT2200XLI or SRT3000XLI is not enough. It may turn a short shutdown window into a longer decision window, depending on load. For some sites that means enough time for a clean server shutdown. For others it means keeping network and storage online through a short building power event, generator transfer, or breaker reset.
Do not treat it as a generator replacement. A UPS battery pack is for minutes, not full-day backup. If your requirement is three hours, six hours, or an entire working day, the correct design may involve load reduction, multiple battery packs, a larger UPS, or a generator-backed electrical circuit. Vector Dubai checks the actual load before giving runtime guidance.
Runtime planning tip
Decide the business target first. Do you need 10 minutes for shutdown, 20 minutes for remote access, or 30 minutes for a controlled decision? Once the target is clear, size the UPS and battery pack against the real load in watts. VA alone is not enough.
Dubai heat and external battery packs
Batteries do not like heat. This matters in Dubai.
In a well-cooled server room, APC UPS batteries behave closer to expected runtime and service life. In a warm storage room, electrical closet, or small office cabinet without airflow, battery performance drops faster. A UPS installed near a window, above a false ceiling, beside a hot switch stack, or in a room where AC is turned off after office hours will age faster than the same UPS in a cooled IT room.
For Dubai conditions, a practical battery life expectation is 2 to 3 years. Cooler environments may get longer. Hot environments may get less. This applies to internal UPS batteries and external packs like the SRT96BP. The larger the battery system, the more important it is to check the site temperature, ventilation, and alarm logs.
The mistake is waiting until the UPS gives a battery fault during an outage. By then, the runtime window may already be too short. For SRT systems protecting servers, storage, Etisalat or du routers, access control, or CCTV, battery health should be checked during planned maintenance, not after a night-time power event.
Battery age affects runtime
A new SRT96BP and a 3-year-old SRT96BP will not behave the same under load. If your UPS protects business systems, do not size runtime from new-battery figures only. Plan replacement before the battery becomes weak.
SRT96BP vs SRT96RMBP vs SRT192BP
The model name matters. A lot.
Choose SRT96BP when you have a compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT tower UPS in the 2200VA or 3000VA class. This is common for offices, clinics, small server rooms, and IT closets where the UPS sits on the floor or in tower position.
Choose SRT96RMBP when the installation is rack-mounted and the UPS model requires the rack battery pack. Rack sites need correct rails, placement, cable routing, and weight planning. A battery pack is heavy. It should not be placed randomly in a cabinet without checking load, airflow, and service access.
Choose SRT192BP only when the UPS model requires the 192V battery class, typically larger SRT systems. Do not step up from 96V to 192V because it “sounds bigger”. Battery voltage class must match the UPS. Wrong battery class means wrong product.
| Model | Use Case | Buyer Note |
|---|---|---|
| SRT96BP | External battery pack for compatible SRT 2200VA / 3000VA tower UPS models | Correct choice for many SRT2200XLI and SRT3000XLI tower installations |
| SRT96RMBP | Rack-mount battery pack for compatible SRT rack UPS models | Use for rack installations where the UPS requires rack battery modules |
| SRT192BP | External battery pack for larger compatible SRT systems | Different battery voltage class; not a substitute for SRT96BP |
How many SRT96BP packs can be added?
APC SRT systems are built to support external battery packs, but the exact number depends on the connected UPS model. This should be checked against the UPS label and APC compatibility data before ordering. Vector Dubai confirms this before quoting.
Adding more battery packs increases runtime, but it also increases floor space, recharge time, weight, service needs, and cost. The right answer is not always “add more batteries”. Sometimes the better answer is reducing the protected load. Keep the server, storage, firewall, router, and core switch on the UPS. Move non-critical monitors, printers, spare switches, and test devices off the backed-up circuit. That can add more usable runtime than buying extra battery capacity for the wrong load.
For a server room in Dubai Internet City or DIFC, this is a normal planning discussion. Which systems must stay online? Which systems only need clean shutdown? Which systems can drop immediately? A UPS battery design should answer those questions. It should not be a guessing exercise based on the number of sockets available.
Load reduction before battery expansion
Before adding multiple battery packs, check what is plugged into the UPS. Removing non-critical load can improve runtime, reduce heat, and lower battery replacement cost later.
Pricing, supply, and installation in Dubai
APC SRT96BP pricing in Dubai depends on stock, quantity, delivery location, and whether it is supplied as part of a new UPS installation or added to an existing site. Vector Dubai gives a same-day quote in AED with VAT breakdown and delivery included.
For existing UPS sites, send the exact UPS model number before ordering. A rear label photo is usually enough. We check whether the UPS requires SRT96BP, SRT96RMBP, or a different battery pack. This prevents the most common procurement mistake: ordering the right-looking battery pack for the wrong physical UPS format.
Supply and installation is standard. Installation includes delivery, physical placement, cable connection, detection check, alarm check, runtime review, and load verification. Where the connected SRT UPS uses a network management card, we check monitoring and alert behaviour after the battery pack is connected. For server environments, shutdown settings can also be reviewed so the extra runtime is used properly.

Frequently asked questions
Is SRT96BP a UPS or a battery pack?
SRT96BP is an external battery pack. It does not power equipment by itself and it has no output sockets. It connects to a compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT unit, and that UPS provides the online double conversion output, monitoring, alarms, and shutdown signalling.
Which UPS models does APC SRT96BP fit?
SRT96BP is normally used with compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT 2200VA and 3000VA tower models, including common Dubai installations such as SRT2200XLI and SRT3000XLI. Always check the UPS rear label before ordering because rack systems may require SRT96RMBP instead.
My equipment is 900W. Do I need SRT96BP or a larger UPS?
A 900W load can suit an SRT3000XLI with SRT96BP if the UPS model and runtime target match. The battery pack extends runtime, but it does not increase the watt capacity of the UPS. If the load is close to the UPS limit, step up the UPS first. Then add battery runtime.
Can SRT96BP run a server through a full power outage?
It depends on load and outage length. SRT96BP can extend runtime for a controlled shutdown window or a short power event, but it is not a generator replacement. For long outages, the design should include real load measurement, runtime target, battery pack count, and possibly generator-backed supply.
What is the difference between SRT96BP and SRT96RMBP?
SRT96BP is normally selected for compatible tower SRT UPS models. SRT96RMBP is the rack-mount battery pack for compatible rack SRT systems. The wrong one can cause installation delays, so Vector Dubai checks the UPS model before quoting.
Does Vector Dubai install SRT96BP on the same day?
For stock items in Dubai, same-day or next-day supply and installation can often be arranged depending on location and schedule. Installation includes connection, UPS detection check, alarm check, runtime review, and load verification.
Is SRT96BP covered under APC warranty in the UAE?
Yes, when supplied through authorised UAE channels. Vector Dubai supplies APC/Schneider Electric products with local warranty support and handles warranty coordination for customers in Dubai and across the UAE.
Will Dubai heat reduce the life of the SRT96BP?
Yes. Heat shortens battery life. In Dubai, a practical expectation for UPS batteries is often 2 to 3 years, especially in rooms without proper cooling. Keep the UPS and battery pack in a cooled, ventilated space and check battery health during maintenance.
Who is the supplier of APC SRT96BP in Dubai?
Vector Dubai is an authorised APC/Schneider Electric supplier and installer in Dubai, UAE. We supply the APC SRT96BP with installation, compatibility check, runtime review, VAT invoice, and local warranty support. Vector Dubai has supplied and installed APC UPS systems across the UAE since 2010.
What is the best external battery pack for APC SRT3000XLI in Dubai?
For a compatible SRT3000XLI tower UPS, SRT96BP is the correct external battery pack family to check first. The final choice depends on the exact UPS model, load in watts, runtime target, and whether the installation is tower or rack. Send the UPS label photo to Vector Dubai before ordering.
