Description

APC SRT48RMBP Dubai External Battery Pack for SRT1000RMXLI and SRT1500RMXLI

The UPS is doing its job. Power drops, the rack stays alive, and the server does not crash.

That is fine for a clean shutdown. It is not fine for a network rack that must stay online while the building generator starts, while facilities checks the MDB panel, or while the IT team decides whether the issue is DEWA, a breaker, or a floor-level electrical fault. In Dubai offices, especially older towers and busy free zones, the problem is often not a dramatic outage. It is a short voltage event, a repeated dip, or a building power reset that takes longer than expected.

That is where the APC SRT48RMBP fits. It is an external battery pack for compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT rack UPS systems, used when the UPS capacity is correct but the battery runtime is not enough.

What the APC SRT48RMBP is

The APC SRT48RMBP is an external battery pack for the APC Smart-UPS SRT rack range. It is made for the smaller rack-mounted SRT models where the UPS already provides online double conversion protection, but the internal battery runtime is too short for the site requirement.

In plain terms: the UPS protects the load. The SRT48RMBP gives it more time.

This matters for Dubai server racks, network rooms, CCTV racks, access control panels, small data cabinets, Etisalat and du router rooms, and PABX systems where shutdown is not the first option. A 1000VA or 1500VA online UPS may carry the load safely, but without an external battery pack, runtime is usually measured in minutes. Add the correct battery pack and the same rack can ride through longer interruptions, generator transfer delays, and planned electrical work.

The SRT48RMBP is not a UPS by itself. It has no VA rating, no watt rating, and no output sockets. It connects to a compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT rack UPS through the battery expansion connection. The UPS still handles the inverter, charger, display, communication, overload protection, and shutdown logic. The battery pack simply increases stored energy.

Battery pack, not UPS

The SRT48RMBP does not protect equipment on its own. It must be connected to a compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT rack UPS. For Dubai buyers, the usual match is a 1000VA or 1500VA SRT rack installation where the load is correct but runtime needs to be longer.

Compatible UPS models

The SRT48RMBP is used with APC Smart-UPS SRT rack UPS models in the 1000VA and 1500VA class. For VDS product planning, it is listed for:

Those two UPS models are online double conversion units. That means they continuously regenerate incoming power through the inverter and provide zero transfer time when mains power fails. The SRT48RMBP does not change that topology. It extends how long the UPS can keep delivering that protected output.

Compatibility should always be checked against the exact UPS model label before ordering. APC model names are close, and one wrong character can mean a different battery voltage or chassis type. Vector Dubai checks the UPS part number, rack depth, battery connector, expected load, and required runtime before quoting the SRT48RMBP.

Do not buy by photo only

APC SRT battery packs look similar across different voltage classes. Match by UPS model number, not by rack height or front-panel style. The SRT48RMBP is for compatible 48V SRT rack systems, not for every SRT UPS.

Why external runtime matters more than the UPS size

Many buyers try to solve runtime by buying a larger UPS. Sometimes that is the wrong move.

A UPS has two jobs. First, it must carry the connected load without overload. Second, it must run long enough for the business requirement. These are related, but they are not the same thing.

For example, a rack may only draw 350W: one firewall, two switches, an NVR, a fibre router, and a small server. A 1000VA / 1000W SRT rack UPS can carry that load. The capacity is fine. But if the internal battery only gives a few minutes under real site conditions, buying a 3000VA UPS may be unnecessary. The load does not need 3000W. It needs more battery time.

That is the reason external battery packs exist. They let the UPS remain correctly sized for the load while adding runtime for the actual site need.

For a Dubai network rack, the need is often simple: keep internet, VPN, CCTV, access control, and VoIP alive through a building power event. Staff can tolerate lights flickering. They cannot tolerate the firewall rebooting, the CCTV recorder dropping, or the PABX losing active calls while the office is open.

Runtime rule — size the UPS for watts, add battery for minutes

If the UPS watt capacity is already correct, an external battery pack is usually the cleaner answer. For SRT1000RMXLI and SRT1500RMXLI rack systems, the SRT48RMBP is used when the rack needs longer runtime without moving to a larger UPS frame.

Where SRT48RMBP is used in Dubai

The most common SRT48RMBP installations are not huge data centres. They are the smaller racks that everyone forgets until they go down.

A 12U or 18U wall rack in a clinic. A CCTV rack in a warehouse office. A small server cabinet in a JLT or Business Bay office. A network rack in a school admin block. A PABX and fibre handoff rack in a hotel back office. A branch firewall in Sharjah connected back to head office in Dubai.

These racks are not always in ideal rooms. Some sit in storage areas with weak AC. Some are in electrical closets. Some are beside glass partitions where afternoon heat builds up. The UPS may be online double conversion, but the battery still lives in Dubai conditions. Runtime and battery life must be planned around that reality.

Vector Dubai supplies and installs APC battery packs with load checking, rack placement, cable routing, battery detection, and runtime verification. We do not just deliver the carton. The battery pack has to be connected correctly, recognised by the UPS, and tested under the actual load it will protect.

Online double conversion UPS plus external battery

The SRT range is APC’s online double conversion UPS family. That topology is different from line interactive UPS systems used in standard office setups.

Line interactive UPS systems correct moderate voltage changes and switch to battery when mains fails. They are a good fit for many office loads. Online double conversion UPS systems go further. Incoming AC is converted and regenerated continuously, so the protected equipment sees clean inverter output all the time. There is no transfer delay during a power failure because the inverter is already carrying the load.

That matters for sensitive racks: servers, storage, firewall clusters, medical IT equipment, telecom devices, and building systems that do not like messy power. In Dubai, online UPS systems are often used in server rooms, finance offices, clinics, logistics operations, and facilities where voltage dips in the building cannot be allowed to reach the load.

The SRT48RMBP supports that setup by increasing battery reserve. The power quality comes from the UPS. The longer operating window comes from the external battery pack.

Online UPS runtime planning

Online double conversion UPS systems protect sensitive equipment from transfer delays and poor input power. Runtime still depends on load watts, battery condition, room temperature, and the number of connected battery packs. For accurate figures, Vector Dubai checks the live rack load before recommending how many battery packs are needed.

How many battery packs do you need?

The honest answer: it depends on the load.

A 200W network rack and an 800W rack may use the same UPS model, but their runtime will not be close. The 200W rack may be protecting a router, firewall, switch, and access control controller. The 800W rack may include servers, storage, PoE switching, NVR recording, and several powered devices. Same battery pack. Very different runtime.

This is why we do not quote runtime from a clean lab table as if it will match every Dubai site. A battery pack installed in a cooled server room at 23°C will behave better than one installed in a 35°C electrical closet. A pack supporting a 30% load will run longer than one supporting a 75% load. Old internal UPS batteries will also affect real runtime planning.

For most SRT48RMBP enquiries, we ask for three details: UPS model, current load in watts or load percentage, and target runtime in minutes. With those numbers, we can recommend whether one external battery pack is enough or whether the site needs a different UPS and battery arrangement.

What Vector Dubai checks before installation

Battery packs are heavy, and rack placement matters. The SRT48RMBP should be installed where the rack can support the weight, where airflow is not blocked, and where the battery cable can be routed without strain. In many small Dubai offices, the rack was installed years before the UPS upgrade. Space is tight. Cable management is already crowded. That has to be checked before the battery pack arrives on site.

During supply and installation, Vector Dubai checks the UPS model, connected load, rack space, earthing, input power, runtime target, battery detection, and shutdown settings. If PowerChute is installed, we confirm shutdown thresholds are sensible. If the rack supports branch network equipment, we check which devices must stay live and which can shut down early.

That is the difference between buying a battery pack and installing a runtime system. The carton is only one part of the work.

For the wider APC UPS range, see our UPS systems in Dubai page. For SRT rack systems, the SRT48RMBP is normally considered when the UPS is already correctly sized but the runtime target has moved from “safe shutdown” to “keep the rack alive”.

Runtime in Dubai — what changes after adding SRT48RMBP

The SRT48RMBP is bought for one reason: more minutes on battery.

A rack UPS without an external battery pack is usually sized for safe shutdown. That means the UPS gives enough time for a server, NVR, firewall, or storage device to close safely before the battery is empty. Good for data protection. Not always good for business continuity.

With an external battery pack, the aim changes. Instead of “shut down before the battery runs out,” the goal becomes “keep the rack alive until mains power comes back, the generator starts, or the facilities team restores the circuit.” That is a different requirement.

Runtime depends on four numbers: UPS model, connected watts, battery age, and room temperature. A lightly loaded SRT1000RMXLI will gain more runtime from one SRT48RMBP than a heavily loaded SRT1500RMXLI. A cool server room will perform better than a warm electrical closet. A new battery pack will perform better than one that has already lived through three Dubai summers.

For real Dubai planning, we treat APC runtime tables as a starting point, not the final answer. We check the load percentage on the UPS, confirm what equipment is connected, and then quote based on the target runtime. Ten minutes for controlled shutdown. Twenty to thirty minutes for generator delay. Longer runtime for sites where internet, CCTV, access control, or PABX must stay online during building power faults.

Dubai battery reality

UPS batteries age faster in heat. In well-cooled rooms, battery life is better. In server closets running above 30°C, expect shorter runtime and earlier replacement. For Dubai sites, 2–3 years is a practical battery planning cycle, especially where AC is weak or the rack runs 24/7.

SRT48RMBP vs moving to a larger UPS

The right choice depends on the problem.

If the current UPS is overloaded, a battery pack will not fix it. A UPS running close to its watt limit needs a larger UPS. The SRT48RMBP adds stored battery energy; it does not increase the output watt capacity of the UPS.

If the current UPS load is healthy but runtime is too short, the SRT48RMBP is the correct path. A rack drawing 300W on a 1000W UPS does not need a 3000W UPS just to stay alive longer. It needs more battery reserve.

Step down: if the site only needs basic shutdown time, stay with the internal battery of the SRT1000RMXLI or SRT1500RMXLI and configure PowerChute properly. That keeps cost and rack space lower.

Step up: if the load is above the comfortable range for a 1000VA or 1500VA SRT rack UPS, move to a higher SRT model such as the SRT2200RMXLI or SRT3000RMXLI and use the matching battery pack for that UPS class. Do not force a small UPS to carry a rack that has already outgrown it.

Capacity and runtime are separate

The SRT48RMBP extends runtime. It does not change a 1000W UPS into a 1500W UPS. Before quoting, Vector Dubai checks the live load so the battery pack is used for the right reason.

Installation in a live rack

Installing a rack battery pack is not the same as plugging in a desktop UPS.

The battery pack has to be placed correctly in the rack, normally low in the cabinet because of weight. The rack rails, shelf support, and available depth must be checked. Battery cables must not be stretched, crushed, or routed across hot equipment exhaust. Airflow around the UPS and battery pack should stay clear. In small Dubai offices, the rack often already contains fibre equipment, patch panels, CCTV NVRs, switches, and loose power adapters. That makes planning important.

Vector Dubai installation includes physical placement, battery connection, UPS detection check, load test, runtime estimate check, and shutdown review. Where PowerChute is used, shutdown timing is set according to the real battery reserve, not a guess. If the rack supports Etisalat or du connectivity, we confirm which network devices must remain on battery and which non-critical loads should be removed.

We also check whether the rack has grown beyond its original UPS plan. Many sites start with a firewall and switch. Two years later there is an NVR, PoE switch, NAS, access control panel, and extra telecom device. Adding a battery pack without checking the load can hide a sizing problem. We check first.

Battery replacement and service life

The SRT48RMBP contains sealed battery modules designed for UPS use. Like all VRLA UPS batteries, they are consumable parts. They age even when power is stable. Heat, repeated discharge, poor ventilation, and high charging temperature shorten life.

In Dubai, a realistic service life is usually 2–3 years. In a properly cooled server room, the battery may last longer. In a warm rack room or electrical closet, it may not. The UPS will normally report battery condition and replacement alerts, but waiting until the alarm appears is not always the best plan for critical racks.

For sites with CCTV, access control, healthcare systems, finance operations, or branch VPN links, we recommend battery inspection as part of the maintenance cycle. A runtime test gives better information than a front-panel battery icon. The question is not only “does the battery work?” The real question is “does it still give the minutes we designed for?”

Replace weak UPS batteries before they fail

A weak external battery pack may still appear connected, but runtime can collapse during a real outage. For Dubai racks that support CCTV, PABX, internet, or access control, test runtime before summer load peaks.

Frequently asked questions

Which UPS models does the APC SRT48RMBP fit?

The SRT48RMBP is used with compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT rack UPS systems in the 1000VA and 1500VA class, including SRT1000RMXLI and SRT1500RMXLI. Always confirm the exact UPS model label before ordering.

Does the SRT48RMBP have a VA or watt rating?

No. It is not a UPS and it does not have output capacity. The VA and watt rating come from the connected UPS. The SRT48RMBP only adds battery runtime.

Can the SRT48RMBP increase the load capacity of my UPS?

No. If your UPS is overloaded, you need a larger UPS. The SRT48RMBP increases runtime only. A 1000W UPS remains a 1000W UPS after adding the battery pack.

How much runtime will one SRT48RMBP add?

Runtime depends on the UPS model, connected load in watts, battery age, and room temperature. A 250W network rack will run much longer than an 800W rack. Send Vector Dubai the UPS model and load percentage for a realistic runtime estimate.

Can this run a server through a full power outage?

It can extend runtime, but “full power outage” needs a target in minutes or hours. For 10–30 minutes, one external pack may be suitable depending on load. For long outages, the site may need multiple battery packs, generator support, or a larger UPS system.

Does Vector Dubai install the SRT48RMBP on the same day?

For available stock in Dubai, same-day or next-day supply and installation can usually be arranged depending on schedule and site access. Installation includes connection, UPS detection check, load test, and runtime review.

Is the SRT48RMBP covered under APC warranty in the UAE?

Yes, when supplied through authorised APC/Schneider Electric channels. Vector Dubai supplies APC UPS battery packs with Schneider Electric UAE warranty support and local invoice documentation.

Why does Dubai heat matter for a battery pack?

UPS batteries are sensitive to heat. A battery pack in a 35°C rack room will age faster than one in a cooled 23°C server room. In Dubai, 2–3 years is a practical replacement cycle for many UPS battery installations.

Who is the supplier of APC SRT48RMBP in Dubai?

Vector Dubai is an authorised APC/Schneider Electric supplier and installer in Dubai, operating since 2010. We supply the APC SRT48RMBP with installation, warranty support, VAT invoice, and UAE delivery.

What is the best external battery pack for SRT1000RMXLI or SRT1500RMXLI in Dubai?

For compatible 48V APC SRT rack UPS systems, the SRT48RMBP is the correct external battery pack. It is used when the SRT1000RMXLI or SRT1500RMXLI has enough watt capacity but needs longer runtime for Dubai network racks, CCTV racks, small server rooms, and PABX systems.
