Description

APC SRT192BP Dubai External Battery Pack for Smart-UPS SRT 5kVA to 10kVA Tower UPS

The UPS is doing its job. Power fails, the load stays on, the server room stays quiet. Then someone looks at the runtime screen and sees 6 minutes.

Six minutes is enough for a clean shutdown. It is not enough for a firewall cluster, core switch, access control server, storage array, or small data room that needs to stay online while the facilities team checks the building supply. That is when the APC SRT192BP becomes part of the design.

The SRT192BP is not a UPS by itself. It is an external battery pack for compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT tower models in the 5kVA, 6kVA, 8kVA, and 10kVA range. Its job is simple: add battery capacity so the connected SRT UPS can run longer during a power cut, voltage failure, or generator transfer delay.

What the APC SRT192BP is

The APC SRT192BP is an external battery pack for APC Smart-UPS SRT tower UPS systems that use a 192V battery architecture. It is mainly used with SRT 5kVA, 6kVA, 8kVA, and 10kVA tower units where the internal battery runtime is too short for the site requirement.

A normal UPS purchase protects the load from crashing. A battery pack purchase changes the runtime target. Instead of asking, “Will the server shut down safely?” the question becomes, “Can the site stay online long enough for the power to return, the generator to start, or the IT team to take action?”

That matters in Dubai offices more often than people expect. DEWA supply is stable, but server rooms are not always fed by perfect electrical design. Older commercial buildings can have voltage dips when large AC compressors start. Some towers have mixed tenant loads. Free zone warehouses and fit-out sites can see temporary instability during electrical work nearby. A Smart-UPS SRT handles the power quality. The SRT192BP gives it more time.

Battery pack, not standalone UPS

The SRT192BP does not have VA or watt capacity by itself. It has no output sockets and does not power equipment directly. It connects to a compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT tower UPS and extends that UPS runtime. The VA and watt rating come from the UPS — for example 5000VA / 5000W, 6000VA / 6000W, 8000VA / 8000W, or 10000VA / 10000W depending on the connected model.

Which UPS models does SRT192BP fit?

The SRT192BP is for tower-format APC Smart-UPS SRT models in the higher capacity range. Typical compatible UPS systems include APC SRT5KXLI, SRT6KXLI, SRT8KXLI, and SRT10KXLI tower units. These are online double conversion UPS systems used for server rooms, network cores, storage, security systems, medical equipment, and other sensitive loads.

Do not confuse SRT192BP with SRT192RMBP. The model ending in RMBP is the rack-mount battery pack. SRT192BP is the tower external battery pack. The electrical function is similar, but the installation format is different. For a rack cabinet with a rackmount SRT UPS, use the rack battery pack. For a floor-standing tower SRT UPS, use SRT192BP.

Check the UPS model before ordering

SRT battery packs are not universal across every APC UPS. The SRT192BP is for compatible Smart-UPS SRT tower models in the 5kVA to 10kVA class. It is not for SRT 1000VA, 1500VA, 2200VA, or 3000VA systems. Send the exact UPS model label before purchase if the unit is already installed.

Why add an external battery pack?

A 5kVA or 10kVA online UPS can carry serious equipment: blade chassis, storage, firewalls, access switches, CCTV recording, PABX, Etisalat and du routers, biometric access control, and application servers. But internal UPS batteries are still sized mainly for shutdown time. At higher load, runtime can fall quickly.

That is normal. UPS capacity and UPS runtime are not the same thing. VA and watts tell you how much load the UPS can support. Battery packs decide how long it can support that load. A 10kVA UPS loaded at 70% has a very different runtime profile from the same UPS loaded at 30%.

This is why runtime planning starts with real load measurement. Not the rating on the server power supply. Not the maximum on the PDU label. The actual watt draw. A server with dual 750W power supplies does not normally draw 1500W. A switch with 48 PoE ports might draw 120W in one office and 600W in another, depending on cameras, access points, and phones. Guessing here leads to wrong battery sizing.

Runtime rule for SRT battery packs

Start with the actual UPS load in watts, then choose the battery pack count to match the required runtime. A lightly loaded SRT UPS may gain a large runtime increase from one SRT192BP. A heavily loaded UPS may need more than one battery pack. For Dubai server rooms, we also allow margin for battery ageing and higher ambient temperature.

VA, watts, and runtime — the buyer mistake

Battery pack pages often skip VA and watts because the pack itself has no VA rating. That is technically true, but it misses the buying decision. The SRT192BP is normally bought for UPS systems between 5000VA and 10000VA. Some SRT models have unity power factor, so 5000VA can mean 5000W, 6000VA can mean 6000W, 8000VA can mean 8000W, and 10000VA can mean 10000W on the correct models.

Watts is still the number that decides runtime. A 6000W UPS carrying 1800W of IT load will run much longer than the same UPS carrying 4800W. The external battery pack does not change the watt capacity of the UPS. It only adds battery energy behind it.

The 70% rule still applies. Keep the real connected load under about 70% of UPS watt capacity where possible. For a 5000W SRT UPS, that means staying near or below 3500W. For a 6000W model, near or below 4200W. For an 8000W model, near or below 5600W. For a 10000W model, near or below 7000W. That headroom helps during startup peaks, future additions, battery ageing, and Dubai heat.

When a site is already at 85% or 90% load, adding SRT192BP may increase runtime, but it does not fix an overloaded UPS design. In that case the right answer may be load reduction, UPS upgrade, or splitting equipment across two UPS systems.

Online double conversion and why SRT uses more battery planning

The compatible Smart-UPS SRT units are online double conversion systems. Incoming AC is converted to DC, then rebuilt as clean AC through the inverter. There is no transfer delay during a power cut because the inverter is already feeding the load. That is the reason SRT is used for server rooms, storage, healthcare equipment, access systems, and other loads that should not see transfer events.

Online UPS systems give better power conditioning than line interactive units, but they also produce more heat and need more careful battery planning. In Dubai, heat is not a side note. A server room with weak cooling, blocked front ventilation, or batteries placed next to hot exhaust air will lose battery life faster. A site that expects three years of runtime performance but keeps batteries in a 35°C room will be disappointed.

Online double conversion vs battery runtime

The SRT UPS protects the load with zero transfer time and regenerated output power. The SRT192BP extends the time available during battery operation. They solve different parts of the same problem: clean power first, longer runtime second.

What Vector Dubai checks before supplying SRT192BP

Before quoting the APC SRT192BP, Vector Dubai checks three things: the exact UPS model, the present load in watts, and the required runtime. That avoids the common mistake of buying one external pack because it “looks enough” and finding out during the first outage that the site only gained a few extra minutes.

For existing UPS installations, we ask for a photo of the UPS model label and, where possible, the load percentage from the UPS display or network card. For new installations, we size the UPS and battery pack together. That gives a cleaner design: UPS watt capacity, battery runtime, rack or tower placement, cable routing, and monitoring all planned before delivery.

Installation is part of the job. The battery pack is connected to the SRT UPS, detected by the UPS, and tested. Runtime is checked against the connected load. If the UPS has a network management card, battery status is verified from the web interface. For IT teams using shutdown software, the runtime threshold is reviewed so servers do not shut down too early or too late.

Runtime in Dubai — what changes after adding SRT192BP?

The SRT192BP is bought for one reason: more minutes on battery. But the exact runtime depends on the UPS model, the real connected load in watts, the age of the batteries, the number of battery packs connected, and the room temperature.

A lightly loaded SRT5K or SRT6K system may gain a useful jump from one external battery pack. A heavily loaded SRT8K or SRT10K system may still need more than one pack to reach the target. That is why we do not quote runtime from a table without seeing the load. Runtime planning has to be done against the actual watts on site, not the maximum UPS rating.

Dubai heat changes the answer too. Batteries age faster in rooms above 25°C. A server room at 30°C to 35°C will not behave like a datasheet test room. Non-cooled electrical closets, back offices with weak AC, and warehouse IT rooms can shorten both runtime and battery life. For most Dubai sites, plan for 2 to 3 years of service life from UPS batteries, then test and replace before failure.

Runtime target, not guesswork

Tell us the UPS model, current load percentage, and target runtime. For example: “SRT6KXLI, 42% load, need 30 minutes.” That is enough to start the correct battery pack sizing conversation.

SRT192BP vs SRT192RMBP — tower or rack?

This is the mistake that delays projects. SRT192BP and SRT192RMBP sound almost the same, but they are installed differently.

Choose SRT192BP when the UPS is a tower unit standing on the floor or beside the equipment cabinet. Choose SRT192RMBP when the UPS is a rackmount unit installed inside a server rack. The rack version is built for cabinet mounting, rail planning, front access, rack weight distribution, and cable routing.

For new server rooms in Dubai, many IT teams prefer rackmount UPS and rack battery packs because the installation is cleaner. For existing electrical rooms, clinics, warehouses, or control rooms, tower UPS and tower battery packs are still common. The correct choice depends on the UPS already installed and the physical space around it.

Model Use This When
SRT192BP The connected Smart-UPS SRT is a tower unit.
SRT192RMBP The connected Smart-UPS SRT is rackmount and installed in a server cabinet.
SRT96BP For compatible lower-capacity SRT2200 and SRT3000 tower systems, not 5kVA to 10kVA SRT tower systems.

Decision guide — one battery pack or more?

One external battery pack is often enough when the UPS load is light and the target is moderate. For example, a 6kVA SRT UPS carrying networking, firewalls, two servers, and storage may only need extra minutes to bridge short outages and generator start time.

More than one battery pack may be needed when the connected load is high or the site wants 30, 45, or 60 minutes. This is common in clinics, logistics offices, CCTV control rooms, hotel back offices, and data cabinets supporting Etisalat or du connectivity where shutdown creates bigger problems than the power cut itself.

There is also a maintenance angle. A site that needs long runtime should not design the battery system with no spare margin. Batteries lose capacity as they age. In Dubai, that ageing is faster in warm rooms. A design that meets exactly 30 minutes on day one may not meet 30 minutes after two summers unless the load is light and the room is cooled properly.

Step down, same level, step across

For smaller SRT2200 or SRT3000 tower UPS systems, look at SRT96BP instead. For SRT5K, SRT6K, SRT8K, and SRT10K tower UPS systems, SRT192BP is the correct battery pack family. For rackmount systems, move across to SRT192RMBP.

Installation, testing, and monitoring

A battery pack should not be dropped beside the UPS and left for someone else to connect. The SRT192BP has to be connected correctly, detected by the UPS, and allowed to charge. The UPS settings then need to reflect the installed battery system so runtime calculation is meaningful.

Vector Dubai installation includes physical placement, battery connection, UPS detection check, charging status check, and runtime review under the connected load. If the SRT UPS has an APC network management card such as AP9640, we also verify the battery status from the UPS web interface and check alert settings.

For server shutdown, the battery runtime threshold matters. Set it too early and servers shut down when plenty of battery time remains. Set it too late and you risk a hard shutdown if the outage lasts longer than expected. We review this during installation where PowerChute or network shutdown is in use.

Battery weight and location matter

External battery packs are heavy. Do not place them where they block UPS ventilation, door swing, AC airflow, or technician access. For server rooms and electrical closets, we check cable reach, floor space, heat, and service access before installation.

Frequently asked questions

Is APC SRT192BP a UPS?

No. The SRT192BP is an external battery pack. It does not have output sockets and does not power equipment by itself. It connects to a compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT tower UPS to extend runtime.

Which UPS models does SRT192BP fit?

It is used with compatible APC Smart-UPS SRT tower systems in the 5kVA, 6kVA, 8kVA, and 10kVA range, including SRT5KXLI, SRT6KXLI, SRT8KXLI, and SRT10KXLI class models. Confirm the exact UPS model before ordering.

My UPS load is 3000W. Do I need one SRT192BP or two?

It depends on your runtime target. A 3000W load on a 5kVA or 6kVA SRT UPS is a serious load, so one pack may be enough for extra shutdown time but may not be enough for 30 minutes or more. Send the UPS model, load percentage, and target runtime so we can size it correctly.

Can SRT192BP run a server through a full power outage?

It can extend runtime, but “full outage” needs a number. If the requirement is 10 minutes, one battery pack may be enough on a light load. If the requirement is 45 minutes at high load, the design may need multiple battery packs or a different backup plan.

What is the difference between SRT192BP and SRT192RMBP?

SRT192BP is the tower external battery pack. SRT192RMBP is the rackmount external battery pack. Choose based on the physical format of the connected Smart-UPS SRT system.

Does SRT192BP work with SRT3000RMXLI?

No. SRT3000RMXLI uses the lower-capacity SRT battery pack family, normally SRT96RMBP for rackmount extended runtime. SRT192BP is for higher-capacity tower SRT systems in the 5kVA to 10kVA class.

How long do APC external battery packs last in Dubai?

Plan for 2 to 3 years in most Dubai environments. Batteries may last longer in a clean, cooled server room, but heat shortens life. Rooms above 30°C, blocked airflow, and high UPS load reduce both runtime and battery life.

Does Vector Dubai install APC SRT192BP on the same day?

For available stock in Dubai, same-day or next-day installation can be arranged depending on schedule and site access. We confirm the UPS model, quote in AED, deliver, connect, test, and verify detection by the UPS.
