Description

APC SRTG96XLBP Dubai External Battery Pack for SRTG5KXLI and SRTG6KXLI

Your UPS gives you 5 minutes. Your requirement is 30 minutes.

That gap matters when the rack is carrying firewalls, core switches, storage, access control, a small server cluster, or medical equipment that cannot drop the moment DEWA power fails. Five minutes is enough for a clean shutdown. It is not enough for a site manager to reach the room, confirm the event, decide what to shut down, and keep critical services running while the building supply recovers.

The APC SRTG96XLBP is the external battery pack used when an APC Smart-UPS SRTG 5kVA or 6kVA system needs longer runtime. It does not replace the UPS. It connects to the UPS and adds battery capacity, so the connected SRTG unit can support the same load for longer.

In Dubai, this is usually not about running a full office for hours. It is about keeping the right equipment alive: network racks, servers, storage, CCTV/NVR systems, PABX and VoIP equipment, access control panels, lab instruments, and production PCs that need controlled shutdown instead of a hard crash.

What the APC SRTG96XLBP is

The SRTG96XLBP is an external battery pack for APC Smart-UPS SRTG new generation online UPS systems. It is built for the SRTG5KXLI and SRTG6KXLI models. These UPS systems are used where standard line interactive protection is not enough and where the connected load needs online double conversion power.

Online double conversion means the UPS continuously converts incoming AC power to DC and then back to clean AC output. The protected equipment is always fed by the inverter. There is no transfer delay during a power cut. No 2 to 4 millisecond switch. No momentary handover. For servers, storage, network cores, medical devices, and financial systems, that matters.

The battery pack sits beside or below the UPS depending on the installation layout. It connects through the battery expansion port and is installed as part of the full UPS system. Once connected, the UPS recognises the added battery capacity and recalculates estimated runtime based on load.

This is not a small office plug-in battery. It belongs in a proper power protection plan. The load should be measured. The runtime target should be agreed. The battery pack should be installed, detected, charged, and tested under real load before handover.

SRTG96XLBP is for SRTG5KXLI and SRTG6KXLI

Use this battery pack with APC SRTG5KXLI and APC SRTG6KXLI systems. Do not buy it for SRTG8KXLI or SRTG10KXLI projects. The higher-capacity SRTG models use the SRTG192XLBP4 battery pack. If you already have an older SRT or SURT UPS, check compatibility before ordering. The connector and battery architecture are not something to guess.

Why external battery packs are used

A UPS without an external battery pack is usually sized for two jobs. First, ride through brief power events. Second, give enough time for clean shutdown. That is fine for many offices. It is not enough when the equipment must stay online through a longer outage or when the shutdown process itself takes time.

Think of a small server room in Business Bay. One SRTG5KXLI is protecting two rack servers, a NAS, firewall, core switch, fibre router, and access control controller. At normal load, the internal battery may only give a short window. If the building power drops at 2AM, the IT admin needs enough time for alerts, remote login, controlled shutdown, and verification. A five-minute window is tight. Add external battery capacity and the room has breathing space.

Or a clinic in Dubai Healthcare City. A UPS is supporting diagnostic equipment, reception network, and a local server. The requirement may not be “run all night”. It may be “keep systems stable until the generator comes online and allow staff to finish the current procedure safely.” That is where runtime planning becomes more important than just choosing kVA.

The SRTG96XLBP is bought when the UPS capacity is already correct, but the runtime is not. It is a runtime product. Not a wattage upgrade.

Battery packs increase runtime, not load capacity

An SRTG96XLBP does not turn a 5kVA UPS into a 6kVA UPS. It does not allow more equipment to be connected beyond the UPS rating. It adds battery capacity so the same connected load can run longer. If the load is too high, the UPS model must be upgraded first.

Compatible UPS models

The APC SRTG96XLBP is specified for these SRTG new generation online UPS systems:

Compatible UPS UPS Capacity Use Case
APC SRTG5KXLI 5000VA / 5000W Server room, network rack, medical equipment, storage, security systems
APC SRTG6KXLI 6000VA / 6000W Higher-load server rooms, network cores, racks with longer shutdown requirements

Both SRTG5KXLI and SRTG6KXLI are online double conversion systems with unity power factor. That means the VA and watt ratings match: 5000VA equals 5000W on the 5kVA model, and 6000VA equals 6000W on the 6kVA model. That is different from many smaller office UPS systems where the watt rating is lower than the VA rating.

Still, the 70% rule applies. For a 5000W UPS, keeping the normal load around 3500W gives healthier headroom. For a 6000W UPS, around 4200W is a sensible working target. The battery pack then extends runtime for that load. It should not be used as a workaround for an overloaded UPS.

VA, watts, and why the battery pack does not change them

Every UPS project starts with two questions. How much load do you have? How long must it run?

The first question is answered in watts. Servers, switches, storage, CCTV recorders, PABX systems, routers, and firewalls all consume real power. Add those wattages together and you know whether you need a 5kVA or 6kVA UPS.

The second question is answered by battery capacity. A 3000W load on an SRTG5KXLI might only need clean shutdown. Or it might need 30 minutes. Same wattage. Different battery requirement. That is why external battery packs exist.

The SRTG96XLBP does not increase output power. It increases stored energy. A 5000VA / 5000W SRTG5KXLI remains a 5000VA / 5000W UPS after the battery pack is connected. A 6000VA / 6000W SRTG6KXLI remains a 6000VA / 6000W UPS. The added pack gives the UPS more battery to draw from during an outage.

This distinction avoids a common buying mistake. If your rack is already drawing 5200W, adding a battery pack to a 5kVA UPS will not fix the problem. You need the correct UPS capacity first. Then you add battery packs to meet runtime.

Check load before ordering

Do not order SRTG96XLBP only because the UPS beeps during an outage. First check the connected load, current battery condition, UPS age, and runtime requirement. A weak internal battery, overloaded UPS, or wrong shutdown setting can look like a runtime problem.

Where SRTG96XLBP fits in Dubai projects

Dubai offices often have stable incoming power during normal hours. The problems are brief dips, changeover delays, panel work, construction-related disturbances, and overnight events nobody sees until morning. Older commercial buildings in Deira, Bur Dubai, Al Quoz, and parts of Sharjah Industrial Area can also show voltage behaviour that sensitive IT equipment does not like.

Online double conversion handles the power quality side. The battery pack handles the time side.

For example, a company in DMCC may already have an SRTG5KXLI protecting its network rack. The firewall, Etisalat router, du backup connection, switches, NAS, and access control system are all on one protected circuit. A short power cut is fine. A longer event means internet, VPN, door access, and CCTV recording all become at risk. Adding SRTG96XLBP gives that rack a longer operating window.

In a warehouse in Jebel Ali Free Zone, the same battery pack may support a UPS feeding barcode terminals, network switches, a local server, and dispatch PCs. The business does not need every light on during a power problem. It needs the system that prints delivery notes and updates stock to stay alive long enough to avoid bad data.

That is how we specify SRTG battery packs. Not by guessing. By asking what must stay online, what can shut down, and how long the critical load needs to survive.

SRTG new generation angle

The SRTG range is APC’s new generation online UPS platform for higher-capacity single-phase deployments. The key point for buyers is unity power factor. On the SRTG5KXLI, the output is 5000VA / 5000W. On the SRTG6KXLI, it is 6000VA / 6000W. There is no hidden derating where the watt figure is much lower than the VA figure.

That matters in UAE server rooms because loads are now more watt-dense. A rack may have fewer physical devices than ten years ago, but each device can draw more real power. Firewalls are bigger. PoE switches feed cameras and access points. Storage is heavier. Virtualised servers carry more business systems on one chassis.

The SRTG96XLBP supports that newer platform by extending battery runtime without moving away from the SRTG architecture. It is the correct pack when the SRTG5KXLI or SRTG6KXLI is already the right UPS, but the internal runtime does not meet the site requirement.

Installation is not just plugging in a battery

A large external battery pack should not be treated like a loose accessory. The UPS must be powered down or placed into the correct service state depending on site conditions. The battery connector must be secured. The UPS must detect the battery pack. Runtime calculation must be checked after charging. Then the protected load should be tested.

Vector Dubai supplies and installs APC SRTG96XLBP battery packs with the connected UPS, battery communication checked, load verified, and runtime expectation reviewed with the buyer. For server rooms, we also check PowerChute or network management settings so systems shut down in the right order.

That order matters. Storage should not die before servers finish writing data. Virtual hosts should not shut down before guest machines. Network switches should not stay up for an hour if the storage they connect to has already gone offline. Runtime is only useful when the shutdown plan makes sense.

Runtime in Dubai — what to expect

Runtime depends on the connected load. A battery pack does not have one fixed runtime number. The same SRTG96XLBP will behave very differently on a 1500W rack compared with a 4500W rack.

For a lightly loaded SRTG5KXLI protecting a firewall, core switch, NAS, Etisalat router, du router, PABX, and access control controller, one external battery pack may change the site from “rush to shut down” to “controlled response”. For a heavily loaded SRTG6KXLI running close to 5000W, the same pack gives much less time because the UPS is drawing stored energy faster.

This is why we do not quote runtime from guesswork. We ask for the load in watts, current UPS model, number of battery packs required, and target runtime. Then we check the correct runtime table and size the battery bank properly.

Dubai heat changes the real result. Battery runtime and battery life both drop when the UPS room runs hot. A server room kept at 22°C to 25°C gives better battery performance than a back room sitting at 32°C. Non-cooled electrical rooms, warehouse mezzanine offices, and small IT closets above 35°C will shorten battery life. In the UAE, 2 to 3 years is a realistic battery life expectation for many UPS battery installations. Cooler rooms do better. Hot rooms do worse.

Runtime planning rule

Tell us four numbers: UPS model, connected load in watts, required runtime in minutes, and room temperature. That is enough to size the SRTG96XLBP setup properly for most Dubai server rooms and network racks.

SRTG96XLBP vs SRTG192XLBP4

This is the compatibility question that matters most. The SRTG96XLBP is for APC SRTG5KXLI and SRTG6KXLI systems. The SRTG192XLBP4 is for the larger SRTG8KXLI and SRTG10KXLI systems.

Do not choose by physical appearance or by “same series” logic. Battery voltage class, connector design, firmware recognition, and UPS battery architecture must match. A wrong battery pack can delay a project, fail to connect, or create a commissioning issue on site.

Battery Pack Compatible UPS Range Buyer Note
SRTG96XLBP SRTG5KXLI / SRTG6KXLI Correct pack for 5kVA and 6kVA SRTG projects
SRTG192XLBP4 SRTG8KXLI / SRTG10KXLI Correct pack for 8kVA and 10kVA SRTG projects

When one SRTG96XLBP is enough — and when it is not

One battery pack may be enough when the connected load is modest and the runtime target is realistic. A 5kVA UPS protecting a 1500W to 2500W load usually has more room for runtime improvement than the same UPS running near full capacity.

If the buyer wants 20 to 30 minutes for a network rack, one pack may be a sensible starting point after checking the load. If the buyer wants one hour or more for a server room, the project needs a proper battery calculation. That may mean multiple battery packs, a lower protected load, or a different UPS design.

The wrong approach is to keep adding battery packs without checking the shutdown plan. Some systems do not need one hour. They need 12 minutes, clean shutdown, and correct sequencing. Others genuinely need extended runtime because there is no generator or because the generator changeover is unreliable. The answer depends on the site.

Online UPS plus external battery pack

The SRTG UPS protects the load from poor input power. The SRTG96XLBP extends the time available during an outage. Both parts matter. Clean power without enough runtime still creates risk. Long runtime on an overloaded UPS is not a solution either.

Installation and commissioning by Vector Dubai

Vector Dubai supplies and installs APC SRTG96XLBP external battery packs across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain. Installation includes connection to the compatible SRTG UPS, battery recognition check, charging status check, runtime estimate review, and load-side verification.

For server room projects, we also check the shutdown path. That can include PowerChute configuration, network management settings, alert routing, and shutdown thresholds. A battery pack should not only give more minutes. It should give the right number of minutes to the right equipment.

A common mistake is protecting everything in the rack equally. That is not always the best design. The firewall, fibre routers, core switch, storage, and virtual host may need priority. A monitor, unused spare switch, or non-critical recorder may not. We help separate critical load from convenient load so the battery budget is spent where it matters.

We do not hand over a box and leave. The pack is connected, checked, and explained before handover.

Pricing, supply, and AED quotation

APC SRTG96XLBP price in Dubai is quoted in AED based on stock, quantity, delivery location, and installation requirement. We do not display fixed AED pricing on the product page because project requirements vary. A single pack for an existing UPS is different from a multi-pack SRTG installation with load testing and shutdown configuration.

Quotes include VAT breakdown and delivery. For procurement teams, we can provide model number, supplier details, warranty note, and line-item pricing for approval. For contractors and IT system integrators, we quote project quantities and export supply from Dubai when required.

Send the UPS model, current load, target runtime, and site location on WhatsApp. We will confirm the correct battery pack before quoting.

Frequently asked questions

Which UPS models does the APC SRTG96XLBP fit?

The SRTG96XLBP fits APC SRTG5KXLI and APC SRTG6KXLI new generation Smart-UPS RT systems. It is not the battery pack for SRTG8KXLI or SRTG10KXLI. Those larger models use SRTG192XLBP4.

Does the SRTG96XLBP increase the UPS watt capacity?

No. It increases runtime only. An SRTG5KXLI remains 5000VA / 5000W after the battery pack is connected. An SRTG6KXLI remains 6000VA / 6000W. If your load is too high, you need a larger UPS, not only more batteries.

My rack load is 3000W. Do I need SRTG5KXLI with SRTG96XLBP or SRTG6KXLI?

A 3000W load is within the SRTG5KXLI rating, but the decision depends on growth and runtime. If the load will stay near 3000W, SRTG5KXLI with SRTG96XLBP may fit. If the rack may grow above 3500W to 4200W, SRTG6KXLI gives better headroom. Send the equipment list before ordering.

Can one SRTG96XLBP run a server room through a full power outage?

It depends on the load and outage duration. One battery pack may be enough for controlled shutdown or short extended runtime. It is not safe to promise full outage operation without checking watt load, required minutes, room temperature, and number of packs.

How long do APC SRTG96XLBP batteries last in Dubai?

In many UAE installations, 2 to 3 years is a realistic expectation because heat speeds up battery wear. A cooled server room at 22°C to 25°C gives better life. Hot electrical rooms, warehouse offices, and poorly ventilated IT closets shorten battery life.

Can Vector Dubai install the SRTG96XLBP on the same day?

For available stock in Dubai, same-day or next-day installation can often be arranged depending on schedule and site access. WhatsApp the UPS model, location, and runtime requirement. We confirm timing with the quotation.

Is SRTG96XLBP covered under APC warranty in the UAE?

Yes, when supplied through authorised APC/Schneider Electric channels. Vector Dubai supplies APC battery packs with UAE warranty support and coordinates warranty handling locally.

Does Dubai voltage fluctuation affect external battery packs?

Voltage fluctuation is handled by the connected SRTG online UPS, not directly by the battery pack. The battery pack becomes active when the UPS needs stored energy during a power failure or input condition outside tolerance. Dubai heat affects battery life more than voltage dips do.

Who is the supplier of APC SRTG96XLBP in Dubai?

Vector Dubai is an authorised APC/Schneider Electric supplier and installer in Dubai. We supply APC SRTG96XLBP battery packs for SRTG5KXLI and SRTG6KXLI UPS systems with installation, runtime planning, and UAE warranty support.

What is the best external battery pack for APC SRTG5KXLI in Dubai?

For APC SRTG5KXLI, the correct external battery pack is SRTG96XLBP. It is also used with SRTG6KXLI. The best setup depends on load and required runtime, especially in Dubai server rooms where temperature affects real battery performance.
