What Deye Actually Does — Past the Spec Sheet

Deye is a Ningbo-based inverter manufacturer that has been shipping hybrid inverters since 2007. Listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2021. Exporting to over 100 countries. The sub-10kW range — 3kW, 5kW, 6kW, 8kW and 12kW — is where most buyers in the UAE and Africa operate. These are the models stocked in Dubai and the models this page covers.

A Deye hybrid inverter does three things simultaneously: it converts DC power from solar panels into AC power for your loads, it charges and discharges a battery bank to extend runtime, and it manages grid power — drawing from it when needed and cutting to battery instantly when it fails. A single device managing all three sources. No additional control unit, no switching relay, no separate inverter and charger.

What distinguishes Deye specifically: the 4 millisecond transfer time from grid to battery means your fixed-frequency air conditioner does not reset during the switch. Standard fixed-frequency AC units require near-continuous power — a 20ms gap causes a restart. A 4ms gap does not. For UAE offices and homes running split AC units, this distinction is real and measurable.

The IP65 enclosure is standard across the SUN-5K, SUN-8K and SUN-12K LP1 series. Dust-sealed and jet-wash resistant. Designed for outdoor installation in environments where sand and humidity are constant. UAE outdoor utility cabinets, rooftop plant rooms, semi-exposed electrical rooms — all are correct installation environments without additional enclosure.

The inverter starts harvesting solar energy at 80V DC input. On a Dubai morning at 6:15am, when panels are generating but not yet at full output, the Deye begins charging and supplying loads while most inverters are still waiting for sufficient voltage. More energy collected from the same panels, every day.

We stock Deye in Dubai and configure settings for your specific application before delivery — battery protocol, time-of-use schedule, zero export if required — so the unit arrives ready to connect, not ready to configure from scratch. WhatsApp us your requirement. AED pricing same day.

Full Technical Picture

Eight Deye Capabilities Worth Understanding Before You Buy

These are the capabilities that determine whether Deye fits your specific situation — the functions that go beyond the headline efficiency figures and explain how the inverter behaves in real UAE and Africa operating conditions.

01 — Zero Export
What It Means for UAE

Deye has a built-in zero export function. Configured, it prevents the inverter from sending any solar-generated power back to the grid. In the UAE, DEWA requires Shams Dubai registration for any system that exports to the grid. A zero-export configured Deye operates without this registration. The system generates, consumes and stores. Nothing leaves. We set this before delivery when specified. You connect. It works.

02 — VSG
For Unstable Grids and Generator Integration

VSG — Virtual Synchronous Generator — is a mode that mimics the electrical behaviour of a conventional diesel generator during grid transitions, maintaining stable frequency and voltage output. In areas where grid quality is variable, or where a diesel generator is part of the backup system, VSG prevents the inverter from tripping offline due to frequency deviation. For Africa buyers with generator-solar hybrid systems, this is directly relevant. For UAE buyers with industrial loads sensitive to frequency variation, it is equally relevant.

03 — No Battery. No Panels.
Works in Every Configuration

The Deye SUN-5K/8K/12K LP1 operates without a connected battery — solar charges loads directly, grid supplements when needed. The same inverter operates without solar panels — charged from grid, discharged during an outage. You buy the inverter now. Add the battery when budget allows. Add panels when you are ready for solar. The investment is useful from day one in each configuration.

04 — AC Coupling
Adding Storage to an Existing Solar System

If you already have a grid-tie solar installation, the Deye hybrid can be added as a battery management layer without removing or replacing the existing inverter. The GEN port on the SUN-5K, SUN-8K and SUN-12K LP1 models accepts AC input from an existing grid-tied inverter. Deye manages battery charging from this AC source and adds backup capability. Your existing solar investment stays in place. No rip-and-replace. No wasted infrastructure.

05 — Six Time Periods
Intelligent Energy Scheduling

Six independent charging and discharging time slots per day, each configurable for mode, SOC threshold and source. DEWA operates time-of-use tariffs — electricity costs more during peak hours. The Deye charges from grid exclusively during cheap off-peak periods, discharges from battery during peak demand hours, and switches to solar whenever sufficient generation is available. All automatically. A correctly configured Deye with a 5kWh battery reduces peak-hour grid consumption substantially without a separate building management system.

06 — 140A Charge/Discharge
The Spec That Matters for UAE Loads

The SUN-5K LP1 is rated at 140A maximum charge and discharge current — unusually high for a 5kW unit. Most competing 5kW units are rated at 80 to 100A. The practical difference: when a compressor starts, when a heavy load kicks in simultaneously, the battery can deliver the current spike without the inverter dropping to load-shedding mode. 99.9% MPPT efficiency means essentially no energy is lost to tracking lag as cloud conditions change — relevant in UAE where conditions vary significantly through the day.

07 — Parallel to 16 Units
Scale Without Replacement

Up to 16 identical Deye units connect in parallel — a 5kW becomes an 80kW system. The original unit is not replaced. The original wiring is not changed. Three single-phase Deye units can also be configured as a three-phase system — three phases managed by three coordinated inverters, without a separate three-phase unit. A business starting with one 5kW and expanding to 40kW over three years does so without replacing any existing investment.

08 — SM2 + Solar Assistant
For Technical and Commercial Installations

The SUN-5K-SG04LP1-EU-SM2 variant includes the SM2 module — an upgraded communication unit adding LAN (RJ45) connectivity alongside WiFi. For commercial installations where WiFi reliability is uncertain, LAN provides a stable wired monitoring connection. For buyers who want full local control without cloud dependency: Deye inverters are fully compatible with Solar Assistant via RS485, with all metrics available as MQTT topics for Home Assistant and industrial BMS integration. The WiFi dongle can be disconnected entirely. The inverter operates at 100% functionality.

Flexibility by Design

No Solar Panels. No Battery. Still Works.

The word "solar" creates a misunderstanding that costs buyers time. Here is what a Deye hybrid inverter does in each of the four configurations it supports.

Configuration 1
Grid + Battery. No Panels.

Pure backup power. The inverter charges the battery from the grid during normal operation. When the grid fails, it switches to battery in 4 milliseconds. Battery runs your loads until grid returns. No panels, no roof work, no DEWA grid-tie registration required. This is the mode most UAE office and home buyers start with — and it is fully functional as a standalone configuration.

Configuration 2
Solar + Battery. No Grid.

True off-grid. Panels charge the battery. Battery runs the loads. Grid is not connected. This is the mode most Africa buyers use — in locations where grid supply is unreliable or absent. VSG function maintains stable frequency output for sensitive equipment and generator integration. The system manages all energy flows autonomously.

Configuration 3
Solar + Grid. No Battery.

Solar panels power loads directly. Grid supplements when solar is insufficient. No battery means no backup during outages — but this is the starting point for a solar self-consumption system where backup is not the primary requirement. Battery added later when the solar generation profile and load data are understood from real usage.

Configuration 4
Solar + Battery + Grid.

The full hybrid mode. Panels are the primary source. Battery stores surplus and covers outages. Grid supplements when solar and battery are insufficient. The system manages all three sources automatically based on the six programmed time periods and configured priority. You start in Configuration 1 and migrate to Configuration 4 when panels are installed — same unit, same wiring, same app throughout.

UAE Buyers

Three UAE-Specific Things Your Electrician May Not Tell You

Practical answers to the questions that come up before every order.

DEWA Approval — When You Need It

Backup-only configuration — battery charged from grid, no solar panels, no export — does not require DEWA approval. Same category as a standard UPS.

Zero export mode with solar panels also does not require DEWA Shams Dubai registration — nothing goes back to the grid.

Shams Dubai registration applies only when a system exports surplus solar power to the grid for net metering credit. We confirm which applies to your setup before delivery.

UAE Heat — IP65 Is Not Enough Alone

UAE summer ambient reaches 45°C to 50°C outdoors. IP65 protects against dust and water. Airflow protects against overheating. Both are required.

For outdoor installation: shade the cabinet, ensure 15–20cm clearance on all sides, louvred vents at top and bottom, north-facing wall if possible. A correctly sited IP65 Deye operates within design parameters for its full service life.

Indoor installation in a ventilated room eliminates the heat concern entirely. Always the preferred option in UAE.

UAE Grid Specification

UAE grid is 230V single phase (50Hz) and 400V three phase (50Hz). The EU-spec Deye LP1 series is the correct specification for UAE.

US-spec and AU-spec Deye models — which appear on some Dubai listings — are configured for different voltages and are not the correct choice for UAE grid connection.

All units we supply are EU-specification, verified for UAE grid compatibility before dispatch. Confirm EU spec on any order placed elsewhere.

Launched January 2025

Deye Copilot AI

An AI energy management layer that automatically optimises charging and discharging schedules. Copilot reads your electricity tariff, integrates tomorrow's weather forecast, analyses your historical load patterns, and adjusts the battery strategy to minimise electricity cost — without any manual input. For UAE users on DEWA time-of-use tariffs, Copilot automates peak-shaving automatically.

Forecast-Driven

Weather Shield

If tomorrow is forecast cloudy, Weather Shield retains a larger battery reserve tonight. If tomorrow is forecast sunny, deeper discharge is permitted to maximise today's usage. The battery reserve threshold adjusts automatically based on weather data without any settings to change. The system learns the installation environment over time.

Built into the App

Deye Wise AI

An AI assistant within the Deye Cloud app that interprets alerts, explains alarm codes and provides troubleshooting guidance directly within the monitoring interface. If the inverter shows an unfamiliar alarm at 2am, Deye Wise reads it and advises next steps without a support call. Also supports MQTT integration and Home Assistant connectivity for technical users who want inverter data inside a wider building management system.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. A Deye hybrid inverter operates in pure backup mode — charged entirely from your existing grid supply. When the grid fails, it switches to battery in 4 milliseconds. Solar panels are an upgrade path you add later. You do not need panels to benefit from the backup and battery management capabilities from day one.
Yes. The Deye SUN-5K, 6K, 8K and 12K LP1 series all operate without a connected battery — they pass solar generation directly to loads and supplement from the grid when solar is insufficient. Running without a battery means no backup capability during outages, but the inverter is fully functional as a solar management device in this configuration. Battery can be added later without any modification to the installation.
For a backup-only configuration — battery charged from grid, no solar panels, no grid export — DEWA approval is not required. This sits in the same regulatory category as a standard UPS. If you add solar panels and configure zero export mode, DEWA registration is still not required as nothing is exported to the grid. DEWA Shams Dubai registration applies only when a solar system is configured to export surplus power to the grid for net metering. Your electrical contractor handles installation compliance.
The SUN-5K is the most common starting point — sufficient for an SME office with 5 to 8 workstations, router, CCTV, lighting and one or two 1-ton AC units. The SUN-8K covers larger offices with more AC load or a small server room. The SUN-12K in three-phase configuration covers commercial premises with balanced three-phase loads. WhatsApp us your device list and required runtime — we size the correct model and battery and return AED pricing the same day.
Deye hybrid inverters support LiFePO4 and lead acid batteries via CAN or RS485 communication. Pylontech US5000 is confirmed compatible via CAN — select the Pylontech protocol mode in the inverter menu. Dyness A48100 is compatible via CAN with DIP switch position 3 on the Dyness master unit. Most batteries using the Pylontech CAN protocol work with Deye. We specify the exact DIP switch setting and inverter protocol selection for any battery supplied alongside a Deye unit.
It means your connected equipment does not notice the switchover from grid to battery when the grid fails. A standard fixed-frequency split AC unit requires near-continuous power — a gap of 20ms or more causes it to trip and restart. A 4ms gap is imperceptible to the AC unit's control electronics. The system continues without interruption. Computers, servers and VoIP phones are similarly unaffected. The 4ms figure is confirmed in Deye's technical specifications for the SUN-5K and SUN-8K LP1 series.
Zero export is a configuration mode where the inverter is programmed to consume all generated solar power on-site without allowing any surplus to flow back to the grid. In UAE, this means the system operates without DEWA Shams Dubai grid-tie registration. The inverter monitors grid power flow in real time using a current transformer and adjusts solar output to match load exactly. We configure this before delivery when specified.
Yes. Deye inverters are available for supply to Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Cameroon, Angola and across the Middle East and Central Asia. Stock confirmed before payment. AED or USD accepted. WhatsApp for current availability, model pricing and shipping timelines.
Deye Copilot is the AI energy management system built into the Deye Cloud app, launched January 2025. It reads your electricity tariff structure, integrates weather forecast data and automatically adjusts battery charging and discharging schedules to minimise your electricity cost. For UAE users on DEWA time-of-use tariffs, Copilot automates the peak-shaving strategy without manual configuration. Available on all Deye inverters connected to the Deye Cloud platform — no additional hardware required.
All seven UAE emirates — Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. Free zones including DMCC, DIFC, DAFZA, Business Bay, Dubai South, KIZAD and Jebel Ali are all covered. Same-day or next-day delivery within Dubai for in-stock models. WhatsApp to confirm before ordering.
It depends on the AC unit type and the inverter model. A 1-ton fixed-frequency AC draws about 900W running but up to 4,000W at startup. The Deye SUN-5K can start a 1-ton fixed-frequency unit. The SUN-8K handles a 1.5-ton unit with headroom for other simultaneous loads. Modern inverter-type variable-frequency AC units have much lower startup current — any model in the Deye range handles them without constraint. Starting two fixed-frequency AC units simultaneously on a single 5kW Deye will trip the overload protection — size up to the 8kW if this is your requirement. WhatsApp us the AC type, tonnage and how many units — we confirm the correct model before you order.
The most common alarms in plain language: F35 means grid voltage is outside the acceptable range — usually a grid supply quality issue, not the inverter fault. F41 means battery voltage is out of range — check the DIP switch position on Dyness batteries (position 3 ON for Deye) or confirm the Pylontech protocol is selected in the inverter menu. Bus voltage alarms usually clear on restart — if persistent, the unit requires assessment. PV overvoltage means panel string voltage exceeds 500V and requires an electrician to reconfigure the panel wiring. For any persistent alarm, WhatsApp us a screenshot of the Deye Cloud alarm log and your inverter model number. We diagnose remotely in most cases and confirm the resolution path before any on-site visit. Monday to Saturday, 8AM to 6PM.
