Description
APC SRTG192XLBP4 Dubai External Battery Pack for SRTG 8kVA and 10kVA UPS
The UPS is working. The servers are still online. The switch stack is still passing traffic.
But the runtime screen says 6 minutes.
That is fine when your plan is controlled shutdown. It is not fine when the office needs VPN access, the storage array must stay up, or the security control room cannot go dark during a power event. That is when the APC SRTG192XLBP4 becomes part of the design — not as an optional accessory, but as the battery reserve that gives the SRTG UPS enough time to do the job properly.
For Dubai server rooms, data closets, free zone offices, warehouse IT rooms, and sites with mixed Etisalat and du connectivity, runtime is often the missing piece. The UPS capacity is correct. The load is protected. The problem is time.
What the APC SRTG192XLBP4 is
The APC SRTG192XLBP4 is an external battery pack for APC Smart-UPS SRTG 8kVA and 10kVA online UPS systems. It is designed for the SRTG8KXLI and SRTG10KXLI models, extending battery runtime without increasing UPS output capacity.
That last point matters. A battery pack does not turn an 8kVA UPS into a 10kVA UPS. It does not increase the watts your UPS can support. It increases the number of minutes the UPS can keep the existing load running during a mains failure.
The connected UPS still determines the power capacity. The SRTG8KXLI supports 8000VA / 8000W. The SRTG10KXLI supports 10000VA / 10000W. The SRTG192XLBP4 gives those systems more battery reserve for longer outages, controlled shutdown delays, generator start windows, and sites where IT cannot afford a hard stop after only a few minutes.
Compatibility note
The SRTG192XLBP4 is for APC Smart-UPS SRTG8KXLI and SRTG10KXLI systems. It is not the battery pack for SRTG5KXLI or SRTG6KXLI. Those lower-capacity SRTG models use the SRTG96XLBP battery pack. It is also not the same as older SRT battery packs such as SRT192BP or SRT192RMBP.
Why an external battery pack is needed
A UPS is often bought for the wrong reason. The buyer checks the VA rating, checks the watt rating, checks whether it is online double conversion, and assumes the job is done. Then the first real outage happens and the runtime is too short.
That is common with 8kVA and 10kVA UPS systems. They are powerful enough for server rooms, storage, access control panels, CCTV racks, PABX systems, core switches, and firewall clusters. But if the load is high, the internal battery is usually sized for safe shutdown, not extended operation.
The SRTG192XLBP4 is bought when the requirement changes from “shut down safely” to “stay online longer”. That may mean 15 minutes for a generator to stabilise. It may mean 30 minutes for the IT team to reach the site. It may mean keeping the network alive through short DEWA interruptions in an older commercial building. It may also mean giving a virtualised server host enough time to migrate, close, and shut down cleanly without corrupting storage.
Battery pack rule — runtime, not capacity
The SRTG192XLBP4 extends battery runtime for the connected SRTG8KXLI or SRTG10KXLI UPS. It does not increase the UPS watt rating. Keep the UPS load within the correct 70% design range, then add battery packs to reach the runtime target.
VA and watts still matter, even for a battery pack
The SRTG192XLBP4 itself does not have a VA or watt output rating because it is not a UPS. It has no AC output sockets and does not feed equipment directly. It connects to the UPS battery bus and supplies stored energy to the UPS inverter when mains power fails.
But VA and watts still decide whether the full UPS design makes sense.
The SRTG8KXLI is an 8000VA / 8000W online double conversion UPS. The SRTG10KXLI is a 10000VA / 10000W online double conversion UPS. These are unity power factor systems, which means the VA number and watt number match. That is one of the key improvements in the SRTG generation. Older UPS ranges often had a lower watt rating than the VA number. With SRTG, 8kVA means 8kW, and 10kVA means 10kW.
For sizing, use watts. Always. A server room with 5.5kW of connected load is not a “small load” just because it fits on a 10kVA UPS. It is 55% of a 10kW UPS and around 69% of an 8kW UPS. That affects runtime, battery ageing, heat output, and how many external battery packs may be required.
Vector Dubai normally designs UPS installations around the 70% rule. Keep the connected load below 70% of the UPS watt capacity. For SRTG8KXLI, that means a preferred design load below 5600W. For SRTG10KXLI, below 7000W. You can run higher, but runtime falls quickly and the UPS has less headroom for startup current, added switches, new servers, or emergency load changes.
| Connected UPS | UPS Capacity | Preferred 70% Load | Battery Pack |
|---|---|---|---|
| APC SRTG8KXLI | 8000VA / 8000W | Up to 5600W | SRTG192XLBP4 |
| APC SRTG10KXLI | 10000VA / 10000W | Up to 7000W | SRTG192XLBP4 |
Online double conversion and why SRTG battery runtime is different
The compatible UPS systems for this battery pack are online double conversion units. That means the UPS is always powering the load through the inverter. Incoming AC is converted to DC, then back to clean AC output. There is no transfer delay during a power failure because the inverter is already carrying the load.
This matters for sensitive loads: virtual server hosts, storage arrays, medical equipment, firewall clusters, financial systems, and control-room hardware. In a line interactive UPS, there is a short transfer time when power fails. In an online double conversion UPS, transfer time is zero. The connected equipment sees the same clean output before, during, and after the mains event.
Online double conversion in Dubai server rooms
Online double conversion continuously regenerates power through the inverter. It gives zero transfer time and clean output for sensitive loads. It also produces heat, so server room cooling matters. In Dubai, a UPS and battery pack installed in a poorly cooled room will age faster than the same system in a controlled 22–25°C environment.
External battery packs like the SRTG192XLBP4 are more common with online systems because the protected load is usually important enough to need more than a few minutes. A rack running CCTV recording, access control, firewall, switches, storage, and PABX cannot always shut down at the first power event. Sometimes the business needs the rack to stay up until power returns or generator support takes over.
That is the role of the SRTG192XLBP4. It adds battery reserve to the SRTG UPS so the inverter can continue feeding the load for longer.
Where the SRTG192XLBP4 fits in the SRTG range
The SRTG range is APC’s newer generation of Smart-UPS RT online systems. In Dubai projects, it is usually specified where the buyer needs high power density, unity power factor, online double conversion, and a current Schneider Electric platform rather than older Smart-UPS RT hardware.
The battery pack depends on the UPS size.
For SRTG5KXLI and SRTG6KXLI, the external battery pack is SRTG96XLBP. For SRTG8KXLI and SRTG10KXLI, the external battery pack is SRTG192XLBP4. The higher-capacity UPS systems need the larger battery pack platform because the DC bus and runtime requirement are different.
| SRTG UPS Model | UPS Rating | Correct External Battery Pack |
|---|---|---|
| SRTG5KXLI | 5000VA / 5000W | SRTG96XLBP |
| SRTG6KXLI | 6000VA / 6000W | SRTG96XLBP |
| SRTG8KXLI | 8000VA / 8000W | SRTG192XLBP4 |
| SRTG10KXLI | 10000VA / 10000W | SRTG192XLBP4 |
This is one of the most important checks before ordering. The model numbers look similar. The battery packs are not interchangeable. Sending the wrong battery pack to a site creates a wasted delivery, a delayed commissioning job, and a server room that still has the wrong runtime.
Vector Dubai supplies the SRTG192XLBP4 with installation for compatible SRTG 8kVA and 10kVA systems. If the UPS is already installed, we check the UPS model, connected load, battery configuration, cooling, and runtime target before quoting.
Typical use cases in Dubai
The SRTG192XLBP4 is normally specified for larger single-phase IT loads. Not desktop backup. Not a small router. This is for racks and rooms where downtime is expensive.
A Dubai Internet City office may use it to keep a network rack online while staff work remotely over VPN. A warehouse in Jebel Ali Free Zone may use it to keep barcode systems, access control, and switches running during a local power event. A DIFC office may use it for firewall clusters and storage. A hotel back office may use it for CCTV recording, PABX, and core networking.
The battery pack also makes sense where a generator exists but needs time. Generators do not always take load instantly. There may be an automatic transfer switch delay, a warm-up period, and a stabilisation period before IT load should be transferred. The UPS bridges that gap. The external battery pack makes the bridge longer and safer.
For most 8kVA and 10kVA SRTG projects, the question is not “Do we need a UPS?” That decision has already been made. The question is “How many minutes do we need?” The SRTG192XLBP4 is part of that answer.
Runtime in Dubai — the honest version
Runtime depends on three things: connected load in watts, battery condition, and room temperature. The SRTG192XLBP4 gives the UPS more stored energy, but the actual minutes on screen will change from site to site.
A lightly loaded SRTG8KXLI will gain far more runtime from one SRTG192XLBP4 than a heavily loaded SRTG10KXLI running close to its limit. That is normal. Battery runtime is not linear. A load of 3000W may run much longer than half the runtime of a 6000W load because the inverter, battery discharge curve, and battery temperature all affect the result.
Dubai heat is the other factor buyers underestimate. Batteries age faster in warm rooms. A properly cooled server room at 22–25°C gives better battery life and more stable runtime. A back office, warehouse IT cabinet, or electrical room sitting above 30°C will shorten battery life. In non-cooled spaces that reach 40–45°C, the battery can age quickly and runtime can fall well before the normal replacement window.
Dubai battery life expectation
In Dubai, sealed UPS batteries typically last 2–3 years in real installations. Cooler server rooms may do better. Hot back rooms and poorly ventilated racks age batteries faster. For an SRTG8KXLI or SRTG10KXLI installation, we recommend an annual battery test and a planned replacement cycle instead of waiting for a failed battery alarm.
When Vector Dubai installs the SRTG192XLBP4, we do not judge runtime from the box label. We check the actual connected load, confirm the UPS recognises the external battery pack, review the estimated runtime on the UPS display or management interface, and test the system under site conditions where possible.
That is the only practical way to size runtime. A server room in DMCC with clean cooling and a 4kW load is different from a warehouse rack in Jebel Ali with 7kW connected and warm air around the cabinet.
SRTG192XLBP4 or SRTG96XLBP — which one do you need?
The decision is based on the UPS model, not the runtime target.
Choose SRTG96XLBP if your UPS is the APC SRTG5KXLI or APC SRTG6KXLI. Choose SRTG192XLBP4 if your UPS is the APC SRTG8KXLI or APC SRTG10KXLI.
Do not mix these battery packs. The SRTG5KXLI and SRTG6KXLI are 5000VA / 5000W and 6000VA / 6000W systems. The SRTG8KXLI and SRTG10KXLI are 8000VA / 8000W and 10000VA / 10000W systems. Same SRTG family. Different battery platform.
Decision guide
For 5kVA and 6kVA SRTG UPS systems, use SRTG96XLBP. For 8kVA and 10kVA SRTG UPS systems, use SRTG192XLBP4. If you have an older SRT UPS, do not order by appearance. Older SRT battery packs use different model numbers, including SRT192BP and SRT192RMBP.
Installation — what Vector Dubai checks
External battery packs for 8kVA and 10kVA UPS systems should not be treated like plug-in desktop accessories. The UPS is heavy. The battery pack is heavy. The DC battery connection must be correct. The rack or floor space must be suitable. Cooling must be checked. The UPS configuration must recognise the external pack.
Vector Dubai installation includes battery pack placement, connection to the compatible SRTG UPS, battery configuration check, runtime estimate review, load check, and basic operator handover. Where network management is installed, we also check that the UPS monitoring view reflects the battery configuration properly.
If the SRTG UPS is new, we install the UPS and battery pack together. If the UPS is already on site, we first confirm model compatibility and load level. We also check whether the runtime target is realistic with one battery pack or whether the design needs more battery capacity.

Frequently asked questions
Is the APC SRTG192XLBP4 a UPS?
No. The SRTG192XLBP4 is an external battery pack. It does not have AC output outlets and it does not power equipment by itself. It connects to a compatible APC SRTG8KXLI or SRTG10KXLI UPS to extend runtime during a mains failure.
Which UPS models does the SRTG192XLBP4 fit?
It is for APC Smart-UPS SRTG8KXLI and SRTG10KXLI systems. The SRTG8KXLI is 8000VA / 8000W. The SRTG10KXLI is 10000VA / 10000W. For SRTG5KXLI and SRTG6KXLI, use SRTG96XLBP instead.
Does the SRTG192XLBP4 increase UPS capacity from 8kVA to 10kVA?
No. Battery packs increase runtime, not output capacity. An SRTG8KXLI remains an 8000VA / 8000W UPS. An SRTG10KXLI remains a 10000VA / 10000W UPS. The external battery pack gives the UPS more stored energy for longer operation during a power event.
My load is 6000W. Do I need SRTG8KXLI or SRTG10KXLI with this battery pack?
For a 6000W load, the SRTG10KXLI is the better design choice. On an SRTG8KXLI, 6000W is 75% load, above the preferred 70% design range. On an SRTG10KXLI, it is 60% load. That gives better headroom, usually better runtime, and more room for future equipment.
Can this run a server room through a full power outage?
It depends on the load and the outage length. The SRTG192XLBP4 can extend runtime for an SRTG8KXLI or SRTG10KXLI, but it should be sized against the actual connected watts and required minutes. For long outages, the design may need multiple battery packs or generator support. Send the load in watts and the target runtime for a proper calculation.
How long do SRTG192XLBP4 batteries last in Dubai?
In typical Dubai conditions, plan for 2–3 years. Battery life is better in a cooled server room and worse in hot electrical rooms, warehouses, and cabinets without airflow. Heat is the main reason UPS batteries in Dubai often do not reach the longer life figures shown in cooler lab conditions.
Does Vector Dubai install the SRTG192XLBP4 on site?
Yes. Supply and installation is standard. Installation includes placement, connection to the compatible SRTG UPS, battery configuration check, load review, runtime estimate verification, and basic handover. We do not just deliver the battery pack and leave.
